I did enjoy this book, despite the rest of this review...

The premise and set up for this book was weird, even for a romance book, and I found it to be confusing-- these random agents suddenly stop Eden and recruit her to help with some mysterious spy mission because... she lied on a resume? This is never explained and she didn't doesn't have any special skills? Then they also rope Mezli in for reasons that were kind of weak to me? I thought that these were odd choices and it was very obvious that the ladies should have been super suspicious of the situation.

Overall the plot was weak, the character interactions the first time they are all three together were odd and erratic, and then I felt like they all jumped into bed together so fast! I thought it was realistic with how they kind of kept hurting each other and were miscommunicating, with Eden feeling like she was outside of this fated pair, and Mezli hurt that her mate is also into another woman and is carrying this hurt from years ago... This author seems to excel in creating characters who have trauma and baggage from their past and it's something that they need to work through, however I think so much of this book was spent on miscommunications and resolutions of that miscommunication and individuals processing their own hurt that it didn't leave much time for true and proper romance and emotional development positively between any of these people.

And even though it was nice for each of the characters to bring their own past and hurts to this book, I sometimes struggled with their characterizations. Eden did not come across as a well-educated doctor to me, she was so uncertain and doubtful of herself and considered herself plain throughout the whole book regardless of what the other people told her to her face. Phelix needed a lot of validation and seemed very insecure within himself, he was quick to bend to Mezli's will and just really needed a strong dose of confidence in my opinion. Mezli also continued to be a spoiled arrogant brat similar to her characterization in book one, and she doesn't seem to have much recognition of her faults or why anyone would have issues with her?
