Hillarious and intelligent. Informative and thought-provoking.

I enjoyed this book, but it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. After binge watching all three series of the show, I was expecting the book to follow the same theme - a long story about a year on the farm. However, the book consists of multiple short pieces that are originally from Clarkson’s Sunday Times Column. They’re mostly entertaining, with Clarkson’s characteristic wit and dry humour, but it does get a little repetitive when it’s 200 pages of it. Some parts are actually repeated, which is fine when reading columns separately over the course of a year, but when you’re reading them from a book in the same hour. I did enjoy it though, and it gives some interesting insights into the life of farmers in the current time with climate change, Brexit and general economic crisis. I will be reading the next two books shortly.

I think the audio is essential for this read. Without it I think the contents would have become overly repetitive and the lackadaisical tone I so live from Clarkston would have been lost. I'm so sad to see that the next two books don't have audio.

In addition, I would highly recommend watching the show before reading these. The stories, or columns as it were, are much more engaging with more context and background.
