I understand this is a story about a kid mourning his grandfather. I think the fantastical dreams (lovely, lovely illustrations) the boy has are influenced by the stories and conversations with his grandfather. It's not a straightforward story about dealing with grief. It feels more like a celebration of the good times Finn had with his grandfather.
All of my rambling above is a way for me to say that I loved the way this book looked, and the way it handled the gentle reflections of a loved one. 4.5 stars.

This is one of the most beautiful picture books I have read in a while. I loved the family connection of the boy wanting to complete his task for his grandpa. The dreamy journey is a wondrous one. Lovely and perfect.

This story reminded me of a fable and the illustrations were breathtaking. To remember his grandfather that passed away a little boy builds a ship. He falls asleep inside his ship and when he wakes up he goes on a journey to where the ocean meets the sky. At the end of his journey he finds his grandfather, now the moon, and he says goodbye. A great read aloud about remembering ones we love.

Comforting story of a boy missing his grandfather, building a boat in honor of him and the fantastical journey he takes to the place his grandfather told him about.

A sublimely illustrated book of heartful connection between grandson, grandfather, and mother and of wondrous journeying to "a place far away where ocean meets sky."
