people who need people
are the luckiest people
in the world

and people
who read this book
are very likely to cry a lot

this was a book i needed, in this moment.
the kind of book that knocks you upside the head and says “yeah, things suck. and things are going to continue to suck. but also, sometimes, there are moments of such bliss. and moments where the earth’s axis moves just a little to be exactly in line with whatever it needs to be in line with for all the stars to shine just a little brighter. and you will meet people who will change your life forever. and you will find your footing.”

there’s been too much loss, lately. in the world, but also in suffocating proximity. i needed this.

This book had me in a hold. I read it just in a few days and it kept me up late at night when i should have been at sleep (as it's doing right now). I loved it and the vibes of it.
I know i saw the movie a couple years back but i can't really remember much. Even though this book isn't very romantic in the fysical way it is still filled with love. I love the chemistry between Lou and Will even though i think they where greater as friends than lovers. I don't really know what i base that on but i just think this was more of a friendship love story (?!). I love how they made each other complete and by being each others opposites.
I gave this book a 4 star. It was great. I loved the writing, I loved the characters, I loved the story. I know this book has gotten a lot of criticism for sending out the message that "disabled people have a life not worth living" or something. I haven't read a lot about it just one article or something. My problem (throw no hate) is that I don't agree. I can see exactly what they mean, I can't understand since i am not disabled but i can see their points. And as i said i haven't read much about it so i can be completely wrong but i don't think that was the message at all. For me it was all Will's perspective. He didn't like the way he lived, he didn't want to settled for his new life and that's okay, right? For me the book didn't tell anyone that life wasn't worth living, just that Will didn't see his life worth living. In the book Lou even has conversations with people who found happiness and who's found a way to be completely settled with their lives. I think this story made a really good book but as i said i haven't read about this whole "critics" thing so i shouldn't really say anything about it. I am also not disabled but this was my point of view. If you have any other opinions please comment and let us discuss!

— UPDATE — 27/1/21

I am currently reading the second book which has changed my rating for the first one. I’ve also read about how the book has affected many disabled and paralyzed people and this lowers the rating. It is still good but I’ll give it a 3/5 instead of 4/5

Wow. Just really: wow.
This is not the type of book I typically read because I never thought something seemingly so ordinary could enrapture me. But it did. I haven't found myself finishing a book in less than half a week in a very long time. This book is certainly a good read and an eye-opener into considering what is selfish and what is selfless. What is love, and what are you willing to do for those you love?

I made the mistake of watching the movie first so I kinda knew what would happen throughout the book. Aside from a few minor differences, everything was about the same. Loved the writing style, loved the characters & loved the story altogether. I look forward to reading the second book and meeting some new characters.

Pause - I did not expect this book to be so good. Solid writing, great characters, and a heartbreaking story
