I re-read this book recently after reading the prequel for the first time. Reading it while knowing the twist made it a completely different book and I’m jealous of people who get to read this for the first time !! I had to read it in one sitting the first time.

This book felt like a rollercoaster ride where they threw subliminal messages at your head throughout the ride, and once you got there, the ride stopped at every puzzle pieces click together, and now you can't get off the ride without overthinking the puzzle as a whole.

Without the final chapter I would rate this book a 2 star. However, the ending delivers an unexpected plot twist and does tie the rest of the plot line together well. However, there are many smaller tropes throughout the book that are underdeveloped and important issues brushed over. It’s not a book I would recommend but at least it’s only short!

Before I started reading this book, I read review after review of people saying that the book was written horribly and was hard to follow. Let me tell you something… They were wrong. I loved this book and I thought it had a really interesting perspective. It was like I was reading from inside Cadence’s head and her thoughts. The storyline was unique and the plot twist at the end had me emotional for sure. I guess this was just a reminder to myself that everyone’s opinion is different and that sometimes things can surprise you, because despite many people’s negative reviews, I really loved it and I recommend that you try it as well!
If you liked The Summer of Broken Rules, you might like this one too. It has a similar setting and similar group of characters, but has a unique plot all the same.

the main premise of this book is that the ending is supposed to be this huge, unexpected thing. i went into this thinking that no plot twist could ever catch me off guard. this one did. as i was reading and learning little things, i kept thinking. is this it? is this the huge twist ive been waiting for? if so, shitty book. but it hits you in the face, and i love this book so much for that. genuinely, if anyone asks you how it ends, just lie.

It was a solid 2 up until the very end. The twist completely surprised me!
