I don't normally gravitate towards Fiction set in the Edwardian Era- but what with the huge popularity of a certain TV series, it is becoming more popular in the Christian Fiction genre- and I did recently read another set a few years later.

I was not sure what to expect- having read nothing by this author before, but I had heard goood thigs about this. Generally, I was satisfied, even when listening the to audiobook at work and reading the EPub at home. There is enough romance, family drama and intrigue to keep the reader interested, as well as a hint of mystery.

My only complaints were that the mystery was perhaps drawn out too long- the characters could have acted on clues sooner- and a few mushy romance scenes (which get to me in any work). Also, in spite of some attempt to aviod them, I did notice the odd Americanism (the mention of 'pants' slipping in a couple of times, even though characters had used the approporate British-ism previous passages).
Otherwise, though, the story was well researched as the author's note makes clear.

Also, although I generally liked Brook, she could prove annoying, childish and pig-headed in places. Does a 'spirited and unconventional' woman always have to posess such traits- really?

Overall though, it was a pleasurable and satisfying read- even though at 15 hours the audiobook is on the long side.
I recieved my E-Pub version free from Bethany House via Netgalley for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive one and all opinions expressed are my own.

It is a delightful book and a great read. Why only 4 stars? Well because they don't have a half star. It really was 4.5 stars. :) I enjoyed the story and the plot was excellent. It only loses half a star because I wasn't moved emotionally. That's my final 5 star criteria...and IF I had laughed or cried I would have given that full 5 star rating. But I read sooo many books that I just can't give them all 5 stars.

Brook's Papa was definitely my favorite character, followed by Brice. :) I hope to see Brice in the next book!

I love the early 1900s time period (thanks L.M. Montgomery:). Finding clean books set in the era can be a bit of challenge, even in the Christian fiction market.
This book is not only clean, but also well written. Not even a hundred pages in, I knew I was going to really like it!
The intrigue surrounding Brook's past kept me guessing. My theory of what happenend to Brook's mother kept changing. When all the details were revealed at the end, I was actually pretty surprised!

This book does have a "Downton Abbey," feel, which makes since since I believe it was published around the height of "Downton Abbey"'s popularity. While they do share some similarities, "The Lost Heiress,"has its own flavor.
The story is partially set in Monaco, which I found fascinating. It made me wish I could take of for a quick trip to the small Mediterranean country!
The rest of the story is set on the coast of England, in Yorkshire, which I would also love to visit in the future (can you tell I desperately want to see the ocean?).

The only thing I really had mixed feeling about where the characters. There were some pretty stereotypical Christian fiction characters (if you have read more than a few Christian fiction books, you know what I mean). Brook and Justin, where unique enough to distinct themselves. My favorite character, though, had to be Lord Worthing! I am excited that the next book features him. The only character that annoyed me was Lord Pratt. He is definitely the typical Christian fiction villain.

Overall, I am glad I finally gave a Roseanna M. White book a go!

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars
