The Grown Up is par for the course with Gillian Flynn. I LOVED her first book [b:Sharp Objects|18045891|Sharp Objects|Gillian Flynn|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1370630413s/18045891.jpg|3801]. I LOVED her third book [b:Gone Girl|19288043|Gone Girl|Gillian Flynn|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1397056917s/19288043.jpg|13306276] only slightly less. [b:Dark Places|5886881|Dark Places|Gillian Flynn|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1354988288s/5886881.jpg|6873353] was just okay. A tad too straightforward from the twistiest of authors. I am such a fan of Gillian Flynn, I just can't say enough about how icky her writing is. And as good as the Gone Girl movie was, the book is better, of course. Excellent soundtrack though.
So, the Grown Up could easily be made into a movie, despite the fact that it is a short story. They just turned that short film Lights Out into a long film with the same premise and the same name, so there is no reason this one couldn't be a film. It won't be, but it could.
What it IS though is a twisty, freaky, unsettling story that leaves you wanting more, just like everything else Flynn writes. So buy the anthology from [a:George R.R. Martin|346732|George R.R. Martin|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1351944410p2/346732.jpg] or just by the kindle single and read it.
What's it about?
Basically, it is about freaky people, much like Sharp Objects. But more specifically, a grifter branches out into "fortune telling" and eventually tries to cleanse a house that has all types of crazy stuff happening in it and things go awry. There's nothing else you need to know, so get on it.

Flynn is a great storyteller! Edgy, somewhat unlikeable character (but I liked her) and a twist of an ending.

This is a brilliant little book!
It had me gripped from page 1!

A novella in the style of Flynn's other novels. So I had to read it. Only about an hour's read, but not a disappointment. Pleasantly unpredictable.
Roughly 1 hour audiobook for a quick story about physchopaths. Interesting little story to listen to.
I want more! I know the point of a short story is the first word, short but I need more! I love the way Gillian Flynn writes and how she can draw you into a story so quickly. I really enjoyed this, I would even be interested in her writing a book of short stories.
