I absolutely loved the unique magic system of this book! In a world where the gods are sleeping and humans have lost most of their magic, it was incredible to experience Iyana’s emerging powers. Add in the insanely cool aspect of the stars being banished immortal beings? I ate up the unique concepts and details. The world building was beautiful and believable, which made the story that much richer and more enjoyable. The tension between Iyana, Emmerick, and Altair was thick and kept me hooked as I waited for the bombshell Counts cleverly alluded to… and I was not disappointed when it hit! Just WOW! I’ll be jumping into book to immediately!!
SO HAPPY I READ THIS BOOK
It was everything! I was sucked in immediately, the world building and the characters are SO GOOD! My heart hurt with every twist and turn, 400 pages is NOT enough i can’t wait until the second book comes out!
Y’all definitely have to set time aside to pick up this book!

Who knew that looking to the stars and asking for help could change the course of your life forever?
We meet Iyana in this magical world on a day that will change the course of her life forever. An unexpected event occurs in her small village shaking it to the core which jump starts her adventure to learn more about herself and her history.
Through this book we see Iyana our beloved spitfire fight through the challenges that Uther (the tyrant) and the world throws at her. We see her learn about the truth that has been buried for centuries, while learning who she can truly trust on her day to day journeys.
Review: At first I was not sure how to feel about this book because everything was moving very fast. Once I got past the 20% mark I could not put this book down. All of the plot points were falling into place and the twists and turns kept me coming back for more. I can now wait to read Deceit and Darkness!

This reads like a YA novel but the characters in it are older, late 20s+. Not a fan of all of the angst and insecurities in this book, especially since their prefrontal cortices have finished maturing but none of them act like it. I did like the premise and the pacing.
When Iyana’s village is raided and her people attacked, Iyana looks to the stars and asks for help. Little did she know, this one action would set her on a collision course with destiny. “It’s really quite simple, my dear. Fate has brought the two of you together, and I am afraid it is now inescapable.” Jeannin Counts is a new author delving into the world of fantasy, light magic, and immortal stars, and her debut Novel, Secrets and Stardust, has a little bit of everything. If you are a fan of found family, love triangles, forced proximity, multiple POVs, and enjoyable characters, this might be the book for you.

Being heavy on the fantasy genre and different than I normally read, I had a hard time getting into this one. The premise of this book is so good and I wanted to like it so bad but I found myself disappointed with the delivery. I couldn’t read more than 20 or so pages at a time and there were times I wanted to DNF. BUT, I am so glad I stuck it out and finished it. The ending alone leaves you reeling and counting down the seconds until book number two.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I absolutely enjoyed this book. I enjoy fantasy books that have such good world building written in the story. It really makes you feel like you’re in the story. I love that the characters also fit in so well with the world building! We all love a good character building! I love that each character just felt like they were meant for this story, and none of them felt forced. I love a good love triangle here and there, and this was not disappointing at all. We follow a young woman named, Iyana who is a healer in a village who was taught by her grandmother. Her village is then attacked, and she prays to the heavens to help her out. She gets her prayers answered. This book will pull at your heartstrings, but will also bring so many different kinds of emotions. I love the found family that was created as well. Who doesn’t love a storyline that has tons of secrets that will unfold at some point. This was a good read, and finding all the that is revealed towards the end. I can’t wait for the next book!
