Audio Book: Listened when Simon Sinek came to the Shipyard for class. Good book. Some good ideas about the importance of treating people well, having a noble cause, etc.

5 stars!!! I underlined the whole book. I’ll return to it again and again.

This book! I have not loved a business minded book this much since I read Atomic Habits last year. The subtitle, “We can’t choose the game. We can’t choose the rules. We can only choose how we play” is such a powerful anthem through the whole book. Sinek explores big and small companies that faced unthinkable odds. He specifically looks at how companies with the infinite game in mind thrived amidst change and hardship whereas companies with finite goals were unable to change and grow when new technology emerged, new generations emerged, or hardships arose.

Finite-minded companies place more focus on:
intensity vs. consistency
hitting near-term goals instead of resiliency
competition vs. trust
Finite-minded companies wilt under surprise and change. Infinite-minded companies not only expect them but are prepared to be transformed by them. Finite-mined companies try to make everything work in the rigid construct they’ve created even during disruption.

Infinite-minded companies are open to and embrace any possibility that keeps them in the game.

What Surprised Me Most: this has completely changed how I think of my own work moving forward. My mindset and my just cause have been completely elevated and clarified.
