The author clearly is way more interested in the villain than her hero to the point where I have zero interest in Marist and Royce as a couple. I was planning on reading book three out of sheer curiosity, until I saw it's almost 400 pages long. I'm not interested in reading about Marist and Royce's tepid relationship while they try repeatedly to get the best of Macalister.
I also found the ties to mythology to be heavy handed and weird. Why would Marist call Royce Hades/The King of the Underworld when he's still very much under his father's control? He's not in charge of anything. It makes more sense to call Macalister Hades. Why does Marist compare Macalister's wife to Hera when she's just standing there in a blue dress? I feel like the author had this theme in her mind and tried to shoehorn it in whenever she could.

All kinds of f-ed up
I don’t understand this story. I get the mythology references and the father against son storyline, but I can’t understand the sexual assault under the guise of negotiation. Him saying I don’t mean to force you while actively forcing her. That part is a huge turn off. But I’m invested enough to see how it ends.

I was annoyed by some parts of this book, but was still able to enjoy that she was strong and did what she had to do.

4.5⭐
So, here are the ratings now that I've completed the trilogy. This was really fucking questionable but I enjoyed it thoroughly and I'm afraid I'm hating myself for enjoying it so much.
Ever hated something so strongly that you started loving it? That's Macalister Hale for me (and that extra .5 is because of him).
Me throughout the book: The fuck did I just read?!

Some families.... aren’t family
Just over the top crazy. I’ll be happily middle class if this is what the top 1%-Er’s act like. This is a twisted page turner. Can’t wait for the next book.

I don't know what it is about this series that just keeps me hooked even when the plot is relatively boring.
