A great summer read that will keep you roped in! I’m a big fan of Jenn Bennett’s writing style, and it made it really easy to read and follow.
Porter’s character development is *chef’s kiss* and I get big ENTP vibes from him, which just makes me love him more.

This book is very obviously for a young audience, it brings up lots of heavy subjects but doesn’t handle them very closely. In my opinion it doesn’t dive well enough into
Bailey’s PTSD and just has her become “cured.”
It was slightly disappointing for me. With that said I did like it, it’s the perfect breather book if you’re usually into more heavy reads. I’d say it’s right on track for those who enjoy fluffy romance and dreamy male leads.

3 stars (OMG I CAN GIVE HALF STARS ON STORYGRAPH??? this doesn’t deserve a 3.5 imo but i’m tempted just because i could if i wanted to)

i was let down by this book in all honesty. the secret identities trope in this book was SO LAME BECAUSE ITS SPOILED ON THE BLURB OF THE BOOK?? LIKE I WANT TO HAVE OPTIONS FOR WHO THE PERSON COULD BE?? plus while reading it, the reader isn’t ever told who alex is. until the big reveal. so why did it need to be spoiled in the blurb? i’m tired of giving away the whole book in the blurb, society has moved past the need for that. anyway that’s my main point of contention. other than that it’s okay.

Quick, light read. Was predictable, but still enjoyable. Also - reading the synopsis will give away the 'plot twist' if you didn't already figure it out.

This is a book about first love, friendships and summer jobs. It also deals with a few heavy topics, such as (kind of) PTSD, abandonment by parent, and encounter with guns. Overall, this is an amazing, feel-good contemporary YA novel.

Following Bailey as she moves from the East coast living with her mother, to California on the west living with her dad. This book takes place during a summer, where Bailey is new to town. In this town her online best friend Alex lives, but she doesn’t tell him she moved there. The two share the uncommon common interest of old movies, and she tries to find Alex in this town based on what she knows. At the same time, she meets Porter. A cocky surfer boy, who is just too sweet.
