I forced myself to listen until track 48, to 63% but then couldn‘t continue. It started out promising, the writing is good, but it‘s inconsistent and there are more and more torture scenes and that’s the one thing I don‘t want to hear or read because it‘s a not why I read books. Also the audio recording is inconsistent. There‘s a male and a female narrator, but they switch chapters and the key two characters, but then they read all other characters of course, but not one per character, but each one reads all the characters in their chapter, and in the next the other one reads the same side-character in his chapter but of course then in a different way, which makes it confusing and annoying.

What an adventure! Chelsea Abdullah is now one of my favorite fantasy authors. Her imagination is out of this world and I was so immersed in the desert world that she created in this book.

There is a lot going on in this story and some chapters were very jam packed, and I had to take breaks from reading to ruminate and make sense of the story.

Overall I cannot wait for the second book in this series!

From the second I started the first chapter I was immediately obsessed. The storytelling is genius and so brilliantly written, I could not put it down.

Six of Crows inspired chaptering, with each one written through the perspective of a main character. Heavily inspired by A Thousand and One Nights in the best way. The worldbuilding was gorgeous and descriptive, I loved the characters and the quests. The stories within the story - the history of this fantasy world which shapes and deepens your understanding of characters.

I am one for enjoying when heroic quests go awry and everything goes wrong and good lord did things go wrong for the characters. Many times. Betrayal, heartbreak, loss, pain, old foes, new foes, deceit. It all very much happens in this action-packed story and at times it is brutal.

I am very interested in seeing how this trilogy plays out, however, as this book ended in an interesting way. Not on a cliffhanger as such, but I am looking forward to seeing what happens after this.

I really enjoyed this book. It was unpredictable, imaginative and very well told. I found myself very engaged with most of the characters and enjoyed how each of the characters in the split perspective narrative had their own distinct voice. I would definitely recommend this book and anxiously await the publication of the sequel.
