This one was a slog to get through. If it wasn’t for the fact I was reading this for a book club, I would have DNF’d this multiple times. It’s so long winded and far too long. The chapters seemed never ending. Did anything really happen?

Okay, I am very glad I persevered with this series as it is starting to get really rather good. Here we focus on Rand himself as he tries to invade Caemlyn and prevent the Great Lord of the Dark from freeing himself from his bonds. In doing so things go from bad to worse to ugly as Rand loses his friends and allies through betrayal as well as battle leaving him facing the evil without and within alone. We also get to find out a lot more about his friends and allies and their histories, particularly that of Sanche and her companions as they try to gather together to help Rand and retake the white tower. Jordan still over does the descriptive writing a bit for me but the story now has surpassed this and makes it much easier to forgive and the slower bits give a nice opportunity to catch your breath before the next onslaught. Really looking forward to the next one now.
