Wildwood

I started the audiobook but the narrator's voice was too distracting. I couldn't make it through the first CD. I'll have to read the book instead.

Middle grade story about a girl looking for her brother ventures into Wildwood (followed by a friend) and discovers another world of talking animals. The world shows us satire about the political/bureaucratic nature of groups. Characters weave in and out as the children proceed on separate adventures with separate factions. The pacing is slow, some might say charming and descriptive of each moment. Read for a bookclub, no rating because I really couldn't get into it, but I understand why others might like it.

It was a sweet book, fun to read since I lived in Portland for many years.

Cute book, can definitely see how it could be interpreted for Laika. I liked the endearing animal creatures but thought it was kind of violent for a kids book. Also the parents huh???

Seriously, I had so much higher hopes for this. But it was boring and somehow poorly written. Didn't like how the narrating changed so fast from Prue to Curtis and then back to Prue. Maybe this suits for somebody who can't focus on reading a book for a very long time. But for me, not at all.

very sweet but thought it was so silly that Prue’s parents just let her go back into Wildwood like what, want to get the physical copy so i can see the illustrations

Still thinking about this one...

I tried to read the beautifully illustrated book and even the audiobook but could not finish this book. The story is convoluted and strangely comfortable with military violence for a middle grade fantasy book. I really wanted to get lost in an adventure story in the vibe of Narnia but this was not it. I'm going back into my wardrobe and not coming out.
