The dialogue was a bit cringey and the characters didn’t capture me.

This was a solid read, and very reminiscent of a romcom. Sometimes the dialogue would be a bit cringe but the romance was sweet and I laughed when we found out what August had said on his dinner date (iykyk). Overall I had a good time. I listened to the audiobook and the narrators did a fantastic job keeping me engaged and making the cringe less cringe.
I liked this story less then the first book. I’m sorry but 12 years of pining ok a teenage crush? You’ve both been in relationships and yet claim to have only loved each other? How? If one was a teenager stilling figuring life out. Neither was ever brave enough to actually put their feelings out there all these years later. I wasn’t a fan of the fmc. She came across as boring and a bit selfish (starting from 12 years ago to the present lol). The mmc was ok but didn’t really bring anything to the table either. Every time something happened one would pull away and then mope about how much they loved each other 12 years ago but it could never happen now (side eyeing the fmc because y’all have made out how many times now and you keep being insecure and indecisive about things but don’t want to see him with anyone else?). There’s more that bothered me like the constant groping of the mmc by random women but no one ever addressing it. But what really bothered me was that this book is literally 85% them going back 12 years, 10% last minute conflict once they get together, and 5% get together and stay together with bland follow up. Some of the past could have been taken out to give a better ending while shortening the book.

It was a cute book, I love the history that August and Sloane have, but I could have done without the cheating . Other than that, it was a good book and I love the development August in particular went through. He deserves nice things.
Moderate: Sexual content, Death of parent
Minor: Infidelity
So much internal monologue it was too much but I did like the story & it felt very Black which is always important to me in black romance.
A common complaint I have with second chance romances is I do wish the author would have cut down the timeline. Twelve years is so long. 5-7 years could have worked. The two MCs could have still met at 17 & 18, August could have got married in college at 19/20, stayed married for three, been divorced for two years & the story would have still followed the same pattern

My first audiobook experience and I really enjoyed it. Up until a certain point, I was no longer invested in how the story was going to end.
