I loved this book! I laughed, I cried, I didn’t want it to end
this didn't work for me. i remember liking a man called ove, so i had higher expectations for this. after being tempted to dnf, i kept at it for the sake of bookclub. i don't think this book lended itself well for an audiobook due to the fairytale aspects of it. i wasn't sure of nearly any spelling, and just had to go with the vibe. i get what the book was trying to accomplish, but i didn't find the intertwining of imagination and real world to work that well for me. i'm not sure how it couldve been done better.

I’m not sure if I can explain why I love this book so much. It’s sweet and sad and funny. Elsa, the protagonist is a precocious almost eight year old and I love her as much as I’ve loved any character. There’s something about stories told by children that I love. How they see the world a mixture of innocence and the reader understanding things they don’t. It’s awesome. And this author does it beautifully
took me the longest time to decide if this really was a fantasy book or if the fantasy was all in her head ... I think it's written that way on purpose 😉
Joan Walker does an awesome job of representing the characters in this. Each character is well developed and the story line is great. The actual writing is superb! I wish a couple of the loose ends had been tied up, but really do look forward to his other two books. Especially interested in the Britt Marie book since she was such a significant character in this one.

The perfect book to complete on 1/1/2023, a book which not only resolves in Christmas week, but artfully, masterfully makes fairy tales and grandmothers relevant and radical. Off to a good start!
