Loved how the stories explore ideas of grief and loss through a child’s perspective. It made them seem so simple, universal, and ongoing. Loved the simplicity of the child’s view on adults and complex relationships.
after ‘anxious people’ i had very high expectations — and although it’s slightly overly-elaborate and not quite as sharp, backman’s signature style shines in this earnest tale about mistakes, connection, and grief.

While this book was nice, it was annoying at moments. I was listening to the audiobook so that could have something to do with my annoyance. The reader would flip back and forth to an high pitch absurd voice when speaking as Elsa (the main protagonist) and referencing children's interest. Basically I did not like the aspect of the child. But at the end it all made sense and came together. While the beginning was slow and again, annoying to me being told through the eyes of Elsa the 8 year old. By the end I was in love with the character and how fast she grew up. I really loved the character's depth and their individual storyline plus how they all ended up tying into each other's lives. Only maybe 3/4 of the way did the book get interesting and I couldn't stop listening. But by then the author stopped the annoying child jiberbabber and actually made sense when speaking. Also by that time did I grow attached to the characters and their stories and was able to associate with them. So when the end came, I may have cried a bit seeing how the whole picture was reveled and by then Elsa, not being the annoying little child anymore, did I feel her pain, sorrow, happiness, and her wiliness to forgive. Which made me feel a little ashamed for hating the book at first. I realized then, if she did not annoy me in the beginning I wouldn't have fallen in love with her at the end.

There's a time I feel like I can't finish the book. It feels like forever but finally I finish reading it. Almost teared up in the last part, I will miss Elsa's adventure, and the superheroes, and Tanah-Setengah-Terjaga.
