What an incredible story. It does get a little confusing as we learn more about the land of make believe but I really enjoyed this one.

It’s funny, sweet, and a little bit heartbreaking.

I really wanted to love this book as I’ve loved all of this author’s other books, but I really dragged myself through it. It was fun to find out how everyone was connected but it was buried in so much excess fairy tale that I was losing sight of the greater plot. Overall, I was most invested in Elsa’s mom journey, which we really got towards the end. The emotions and the thoughtfulness was there, but the execution just wasn’t my thing.

I would love to read this in the author's native language - I felt that a few things were translated awkwardly. This is still worth a read, though.

Before 7-year-old Elsa's grandma and only friend dies, she leaves letters for Elsa to deliver. The letters all contain apologies - and a plea to protect Elsa. As Elsa meets these people, she discovers a community of friends.
