Very interesting. But how on earth she ever found the time to write through all of the illnesses she had is beyond me! Amazing woman!

Never heard of the author and only came across her through this book. Really easy to read and very interesting to learn about her medical woes.

I am amazed that Catherine Cookson has written so many books despite all her illnesses and personal troubles. I picked this up as part of my memoir reading. I haven't read any of her books except this but now I'm going to try some of her books.

A great read about life during the war, and her many medical maladies. Sometimes it is slightly back and forward with the timeline, but considering the author was blind and dictating it to a tape it is surprisingly consistent.

I did not finish this book. It became monotonous. It seemed like the same story over and over. I was bored by the fourth chapter.

Ugh.... dreadful book. I thought I would enjoy reading about the woman who wrote so many of the very entertaining books that I have read over the years. But this work was just an outlet for the elderly author to vent her anger and bitterness at the world 'before I go.' Even if the author truly did suffer as dreadfully as she claims to have done, the book still reads as just one last angry attempt to lash out and to get things off her chest before the end. A miserable book that I could not even make myself finish reading.
