I read this book towards the end of 2003. I do remember liking it, and now that I look back, I still think it is a lot better than Colbert's book, which I reviewed here as well.

Oh my goodness is this ever funny! I have to say off the bat that I only listened to an abridged version on audio :-( so maybe they took out the less-than-hysterical parts, but still, it's really really funny. He spoofs the standard U.S. History textbook and gives his (and his writers') opinions on all KINDS of stuff. I love the "End of Chapter Quizzes", tee hee. Plus they all contribute on the audiobook so it's almost like listening to a radio version of the show. There's also a lot of college frat-boy humor and adult language, since of course, this is a guy on Comedy Central we're talking about. But really funny.

Seriously, the best book ever. I have the poster that comes with it on my wall.

It's funny and stuff, but got pretty grating after a while. Mostly because I couldn't shake the thought that oh god, people think this way.

I loved this because it's smart and made me laugh. It's like a funny textbook with bunch of made up facts and lots of snark. Much of the humor is of the "sad but true" variety.
It took me a couple months to read through, though I did read it all and in order. It would also be a good coffee table or bathroom book.
My favorite part of this was the "Were You Aware?" sections in the margins. There are also really funny charts and pictures and features from Samantha Bee, Ed Helms and Stephen Colbert.
But be warned, overly serious folks and staunch conservatives will not enjoy this.
