I think this is my favourite Stevie Bell mystery yet. The Nine were fun characters to read about and the country house was the perfect setting for this mystery.

I also really liked how this book focussed more on the friends as a group, it was nice to see more of Vi especially. Still, I don't think I'll ever be a fan of David

Maureen Johnson really knows how to write my kind of mystery: the kind where you get to puzzle along so you're on the edge of your seat the entire time and you don't want to put the book down, where you pick up on just enough hints to keep coming up with theories, but where you're still surprised by the outcome. This was such an intriguing mystery; the friend group and setting all worked so well.

Stevie's story... I didn't enjoy that much. It entirely surrounded David, whom I dislike, and I felt like every thought she had that wasn't about the murders was about him. I understand that this book only spanned about a week, and I get that Stevie was in a tough mental space. But I feel like we got nowhere with her story in this book. The ending is very open though, so let's hope there will be a sequel!
