For some reason, this was not what I was expecting at ALL. Very intriguing and difficult to put down. However, I rarely like when trauma suddenly appears out of nowhere in books. I feel unprepared and like the story isn't getting handled with enough care. This book had a lot of that, which was really well written and made complete sense (as trauma often does just that, appear out of nowhere). Just not for me. Still worth reading!

Reading Jen Beagin is such a delight. Her voice is so unlike anything else I've been reading, funny, dark, and her characters feel so complete and alive. Her books aren't for everyone as they touch on some really dark topics but I'll read anything she writes. She's the real deal.
