This one was a lot of fun, but at the same time perhaps a little convoluted, or overwritten.
I'm not sure we needed the side story of Conina and Nijel, really. It kind of didn't go anywhere. Rincewind could probably have gotten where he needed to be without them.
I had originally thought the story was going to be about the boy who was the eighth son of the eighth son, but it veered off and focused on Rincewind having to be a hero again.
Look, I did really enjoy this one, but I'm giving it a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It was fun, and witty, and all the things Pratchett excels at. But it did feel like there was some unnecessary bits.

I have conflicting feelings about this book- on one hand, Rincewind really starts to grow as a character, going from someone that bad things happen to to, well, someone bad things happen to but starts trying to fix them, if reluctantly, because he knows it's the right thing to do. On the other hand, I feel like I've read this book by Pratchett before, as it's not all that different from the other Rincewind books.
I also think that sometimes Pratchett's satire falls flat. It's not very funny to me to have a female barbarian who wants to become a hairdresser because there are no other main female characters in the book, so what is it satirizing? When you have only one female character, and she wants to quit her job to have a stereotypically feminine career, where's the joke? Other than that women aren't designed to be warriors? I know Pratchett isn't going for that, but his sausage fest of a cast turns it into that. And, last thing, his tendency to joke about absolutely everything leads him into cringeworthy territory, I think, because there are a couple jokes that qualify as rape jokes, and that's not cool. Joking about death and joking about sexual violence are two very different beasts.

As much as I enjoy Rincewind as a character, Sourcery's return to "end of the world apocalypse" is rather boring.
It's full of funny jokes, but it lacks anything to say, which makes it all feel rather aimless.

Sir Pratchett's humor becomes more and more refined with every book in the Disc World Series. I am in awe of it. Another thing I realize as I read is that I really do not have to go in order based on publication date, but I think i will stick with it.
In Sourcery the kinda, sorta "wizzard" Rincewind is back and so is The Luggage. My favorite disc world persona, Death, only makes a minor appearance, but there are other equally terrifying personas such as a cognizant hat and staff. :)
Will Rincewind - against all personal hopes to the contrary - save the world from the 'sourcerer' or will it be Conina, the female 'Cohen the Barbarian'? Can anyone or anything stop the eighth son of an eighth son of an eighth son of a wizard? Dum, dum, dum....
