So this isn't a "perfect" Discworld novel but it's still a great one. Okay, let me explain. Rincewind is actually a really fun character, in the point and click adventure games he was voiced by Eric Idle, which is appropriate. Okay so a lot of people are down and out about Rincewind, probably because he's so comedic? And in his tone it's lighter and this is especially true for the first two Discworld novels. Sourcery is great, however, because it allows Rincewind to grow, play with fate, and actually make choices. The theme of this book is choice, decisions, and agency. The plot itself is irrelevant, the themes are what make this book actually really good. It takes a character designed for cowardice and annoyance and actually makes a hero out of him when most of the time he does not wish to be. Also, it has some of the best descriptions of The Luggage. I am not so down and out about Rincewind books, I welcome them and am kind of glad when he shows up in the Discworld novels. Still, thematic and for growth, it's an important book in the series, so far, and maybe it won't hold up as I progress. I will, say, however, The Librarian is a great character in this book too and I'm honestly happy seeing his role expanded. I also like the expansion and digging deeper into the Unseen University and the politics and culture of it. It's pretty good on that front too.

My least favourite of the Discworld books. The pacing in this book is very weak, and it really threw me off - it took so much longer than expected to get through. The first 50% drags and the remainder flies.
