This is a quick interesting non-gory mystery told by Amber a woman in her 30s who finds herself in a hospital unable to remember what brought her there.
Amber's been in a car accident and over a series of weeks The narrative switches back and forth between her current state and remembering events from the past as she tries to sort through who she is and what has happened to her.
Well there's lots to like about the story, you won't be intellectually taxed. Consider this more 'pop mystery' then 'intellectual deep dive'.
Of course there's a strong desire on the part of the reader to sympathize with Amber and view her is the hero or at least a victim of tragic circumstances. It's not a spoiler to say that no one is a hero and Amber slowly comes to realize her part in her own trama.
I wouldn't exactly call the book suspenseful but there's definitely some plot twists and turns that make for a fun read. Overall, pretty enjoyable and only a little dark.

Entertaining but flawed.

One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. No predictability, cleverly designed, well written, not a slow moment. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Overview: I love Alice Feeny thrillers! I was excited to read this, her debut, and it certainly had me hooked straight away. The premise of someone being in a coma but completely aware of what's going on around them is horrifying yet absolutely fascinating. I thought I had this book sussed and assumed I'd guessed the twists, and while I did for a couple of them, the main twists were unexpected.

Good Points: I love a good back and forth in time POV, learning small snippets of information as you read. The writing is easy to read and, while the characters weren't particularly likeable, I just had to know what was going on. Twist after twist after twist!

Not so Good Points: Okay, so I love a good twist. However...I did feel that towards the end the twists lost a lot of their steam. For instance, the last one left me so confused (as it did most people in the buddy read group) and I was left with so many questions. Sometimes twists work (but they need to make sense). I didn't feel the last few twists were necessary...

Overall a twisty thriller that's worth a read, but unfortunately it was demoted to a 4 star due to a very confusing ending that made no sense.

There were several timelines to keep up with. Some parts were drawn out. The book didn’t pick up until 74% through. I’m also left with an unanswered question at the end. Overall, not my type of book. I would not recommend.

What a great twisted book from one of my favorite authors that I’m glad I waited to read until I was in a reading slump.
Did not expect the twist.
