Okay, I loved this until the very end where it felt like we skipped at least 10 chapters. Pregnancy trope but you didn’t get very much of the cute stuff like appts and baby moving stuff like that. She’s barely showing and then it jumps to the epilogue. Also the crime stuff is just odd like it’s just thrown in there and then never addressed and we get no further info other than there are creepy guys? Idk it had potential but I think there needed up being too much build up and detail to be left off like this.

Welcome back to Lovewell. This town is the best. Gus Hebert is up next. We got an epic introduction in the previous book. This picks up shortly after. Chloe is taking over Hebert lumber. She has a plan. She’s out for vengeance. When her and Gus divorced years ago it left a mark on her. She out to show what she’s made of. Gus is dealing with the end of his families legacy. He is also shocked by the appearance of his ex wife. Things heat up quick. Will they each survive round two. Will they learn who’s still out to take down the Hebert family?

Chloe is a force. She had her own hang ups due to her family. She takes no prisoners. She goes after exactly what she wants. She’s been successful too. Her buying of Hebert Lumber starts rocky. I didn’t like her. She came of as abrasive and vindictive. Once she opens up some, you find it’s all a defense mechanism. She’s had to be ruthless to survive the business. Once secrets come to light her marshmallow side shows.

Gus is patient with Chloe. He knows she’s end game for him. He is so sweet with her. He finally starts to see his place. His voice is finally listened to. He can actually start making a difference. This book shows how much he took on as the oldest Hebert. How much his father’s betrayal hurt him.

This was a great second book for the Hebert family. Tropes on tropes in this book. Several familiar faces show up. New mystery. This entire story gets better and better. I’m so excited for the next one.
