Y’all. The way my jaw dropped when I read the sneak peek for this book at the end of Caught in the Axe and found out it was going to be exes reuniting! It’s not something I typically read, but I was here for all the drama and chaos!

Chloe LeBlanc and Gus Hebert were married for a hot second when they were very young, and now, approaching 40, Chloe is buying out Gus’s family’s timber company. Just a sweet little payback for how things went down almost two decades earlier.

The tension and banter of this enemies-to-lovers story was so fun. Throw in an accidental pregnancy with her ex husband??! I loved the growth of Chloe and Gus’s relationship, and let me just say that the fire that burned between these divorced exes was fierce! This was the story I didn’t know I needed in my life, and I adored it. “It’s always been you” has never been truer, and Gus was so very swoony. I love me a protective lumbersnack.

“𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙄’𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚? 𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙖 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙, 𝘿𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙡𝙮. 𝙄 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪.”

I love that we still get some of the suspense and mystery that has been a thread connecting this and the previous series. And no review can be made without giving a nod to Clive, the most mischievous moose in Maine!

Thank you so very much to Daphne for an advanced copy!

I repeat, nothing holds a candle to second-chance romance and the way it makes you feel; tension, nostalgia, longing, hurt. In this case, this was such a fun read from the get go. I could totally back up this happening irl. Chloe clearly needed to take a chill pill at the beginning, but also goals for that opening chapter. Keeping the theme of “we stan MMC’s who go therapy”, Gus doesn’t back down from that and as the story progressed he grew on me.

The number of times “bitch” or a variant was used in this book was questionable lol. The pace was surprisingly really fast in how things went from “I hate you too” to “I still want you”. I admire Gus’s narration of how he found himself to just be him when he’s with Chloe. Becca is such a good friend and truth sayer. Honestly, the whole drama of the MC’s getting divorced in the first place seems like their families, or rather Gus’s + Chloe’s father and a whole lot of miscommunication. What felt unnecessary and out of place was the whole drug criminal involvement/"creepy strangers" with the timber company, like the whole thing was confusing.

Side note: I also search if Brené Brown had an actual Ted Talk and she does.

OMG THIS WAS SO GOOD! First of all, this is a second chance accidental pregnancy with her ex husband, divorced enemies to lovers, black cat/golden retriever. Those tropes are such a hit in this book! From the very start, I was invested in Chloe and Gus's story. I mean, Chloe literally buys her ex husband's family business just for revenge. They were married young, then divorced, and haven't seen each other in years but Chloe is still hlding a grudge and decides that this is the perfect way to get back at the man who broke her heart. However, it's clear that her revenge plan isn't going to phase Gus and there is still a spark between them and definitely unfinished business. Throw in a one night stand and an accidental pregnancy that brings them back together, and we have a funny and a emotional story about two exes finding their way back to each other. The way Gus was so in it from the very moment he not only saw Chloe again, but also when he found out she was pregnant, was so sweet and swoonworthy. This is such a cute romance about forgiveness, an unplanned pregnancy, second chance with a first love, and a hot lumberjack and his girlboss baby mama he's still madly in love with. Ugh, I just loved this so much. This series is so good. The covers are beautiful, the stories are awesome, and I cannot WAIT for the next book!

I liked the general idea of the book, but it didn’t quite go where I expected it to go. there was a subplot that I didn’t love that also like didn’t really get resolved, but I think that has to kind of do with the overall series (like even though they’re interconnected standalones there’s like a plot that kind of connects all of them). I feel like because there was that subplot the story almost didn’t feel complete at the end. I will say it was a fun lighthearted read, and it was entertaining.
