Overall very enjoyable, humorous, and sweet. Only side-eye was that the MC’s personality didn’t mesh with her occupation as a protection agent.

And can I say it’s so wholesome that I’ve now read 2 romance books in a row with no explicit spice.

Jan 2023: 3.5* I liked the format this story was written in, like a friend telling me an adventure she's had. I'm not sure I can read lots of stories where the fourth wall is broken, but for me, it worked for this story.

I thought it was a cute and lighthearted read up until the twist... i kept telling myself it felt like a 5* read and how I hoped the twist in the end would be good, so it would stay a 5* read, but I hated the twist. Sure, there were some serious topics in this book, and I liked how the author handled those. But that twist? Rather dark? Even though I had looked at the CW, it felt so out of place? Dramatic and the opposite of cute and lighthearted? The longer I keep thinking about it, the more I want to reduce my rating because of the last bit of the book. I think it's a me thing, though. I wanted something cute and funny, and it was for the most part! Ugh, disappointing.

Quote: "I’m going to try thinking about what I can carry forward. What I can hold onto. Not just only always what I have to leave behind.” "To everything we’ve lost. And to what we hold onto.”

I really enjoyed this book, so much of the character’s narration style was hilarious. And I really believed that the LI and MC were falling for each other, it was so adorable and clear as day it just made me want to grin. I also loved that the characters’ emotional traumas and past get explored and that they show clear growth that feels organic, rather than just a literary bandage that’s supposed to make everything better. I really enjoyed this story and want to read more like it, it was so good.
I will note that while much of this story is lighthearted and funny, it does mention some heavy things associated with grief over a passed family member, topics of domestic violence, and on page kidnapping, a character does receive a gunshot wound, and attempted suicide by a minor character which is stopped. While none of these are very graphic or gory in their description, for the events on page I have labeled their CWs as graphic.

I loved that Hannah loves her job while Jack isn't an asshole. Excuse my language. I liked that he has no filter with his expressions and emotions, like an actual human being. Haha! I devoured this✨ Thank you, Katherine; this was my first book from you, you and you did not disappoint.💕
