This definitely felt like a step up from Rogue. Rogue was okay, don't get me wrong, but this one more than any of the other books felt like it was the first step toward a greater, overarching plot. Also... There were some annoying things introduced that were very reminiscent of the oh-so-amazing Werewolf genre *cringe*, but it felt like Kagawa is trying to go the way I'd much rather those tropes went. Always interested in the dragon-vs-human thing Ember has going which really seemed prevalent in this book, and Garret was a main focus. Given he's my favorite... Yes, let's go! Everyone else is still enjoyable, though Dante is more just a lens than anything this book. Also, more dragon magic, and a new aspect to the dragons that I enjoyed (the magical aspect, not the thing borrowing from werewolves).

Spoiler I will say, I *hate* the ending... But that's more because I started the next audiobook right after and realized what an idiotic place it was to end.

MIND. BLOWN. From the very beginning, I was reminded why I fell in love with this series so much. The characters, the world, the mystery, the tension, the action, the romance, the drama, the dialogue– you name it, I loved it. Unquestionably the best in the series so far. There were so many uncovered secrets, so many twists and turns from every character's POV. I love every main character, even Dante, who had an EXPLOSIVE EPILOGUE, but the highlights were of course Ember and Garret. I adore their romance, though it's clear that Kagawa wants to crush us with romantic tension. Ember's story revolved around her feelings for Riley and Garret for the most part, but I was fine with that, since this was essentially a Garret story. We learned so much about his past, including a major shock near the end that will shake his foundations. As for the end (before the epilogue), I refuse to believe it happened. Nope nope nope. I'm going with my gut on this and while Kagawa lives for yanking our heartstrings viciously (anybody remember the ending of THE ETERNITY CURE? Because I sure as hell do!!!), but that ending would be too much. It's wrecking me, but I still can't deny that this is definitely the best of the TALON SAGA so far. There is so much going on that it's living up to its epic name. I seriously cannot wait for the next book. One of the best novels I've read all year!

I really don’t like Garret, the whole thing surrounding the duel just annoyed me.
“The perfect soldier” on every other page
At least in the swedish adaptation

Not one but two huge bombshells at the end! Oh Julie, how could you do this to me. The wait is going to be excruciating.
