This book held my complete attention from beginning to end. It was 400 pages but that should be the standard for a thriller IMO.

it really bothers me when books have a big tonal shift. this could’ve been a great read about high-stakes and grief and anger, or it could’ve been a romance, but not both. i could not get through a book i did not sign up to read.

Featuring ~ multiple 3rd person POV, romantic suspense, former football player, assault, rape, brain damage, life support

Since it is categorized as a romantic suspense there is quite a bit of steamage in this thriller.

Narrated by Kyf Brewer for 10 hours and 10 minutes, easy to follow at 2.5x As usual he did a lovely job. I am used to listening to him narrate for David Baldacci's Amos Decker and Will Robie series.

*Short Libby library loan review with some highlights for a very popular author for now*

Overkill is an intriguing tale of two men. Zach is a former Super Bowl MVP quarterback, playboy all around celebrity type (minus the drugs). Eban is a spoiled rich kid, narcissistic psychopath. One woman brings the two into each others sphere. Rebecca was a party girl when she met and married Zach. Their short lived marriage didn’t change their lifestyles and they had an acrimonious divorce.
Eban met Rebecca at a party filled with sex, drugs and alcohol. He assaulted her and left her brain dead. Despite daddy’s money Eban was sent to prison for the attack but now he’s out after a ludicrously short time and he hasn’t a shred of remorse.
This book tells the tale of justice delayed but not denied. The dichotomy between Zach and Eban and the paths not taken will enthrall and entertain.

Welp…I was so so excited to receive an advanced readers copy of this book! Sandra Brown is the author that reignited my adult reading passion. I remember sitting in the hallway in the middle of the night so I didn’t wake my family because I needed to know what happened. I’ve read and loved quite a few of her books and it was way before GoodReads or even apps were around to rate

I had forgotten how much I love Sandra Brown! This book did not disappoint! I listened to this book on audio and the narrator did a fantastic job!

Former pro football player Zach Bridger is faced with a tough decision- whether or not to keep his ex-wife alive after she's been through a violent assault. He ultimately decides to keep her on life support, even though they are no longer married. Four years later, her attacker is released from prison (all too early). The only way to ensure that he goes back to prison where he belongs is for Zach's ex-wife Rebecca to ultimately die. Zach is being hounded by the DA to take her off of life support so that they can go after her attacker for murder. However, he cannot bring himself to do so.

Zach grows close Kate Lennon, the state prosecutor after Rebecca's attacker. The book has many twists and turns and it told from multiple points of view. It's a fun ride and I enjoyed every minute of it! I won't wait so long before I pick up another Sandra Brown novel.

Thank you so very much to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for this copy! As usual, it was a great novel from Sandra Brown!

In this novel we have a retired football star and a state prosecutor who come together to make a wrong, right but, they endure a fight for their own lives. Zach, former football player’s ex wife, Rebecca isn’t a modest woman and finds her way into Eban’s world. Eban is a pompous, selfish, destructive and violent man. He and his two friends put Rebecca in the hospital. Years later she is still considered brain dead but, her parents have held out hope and wouldn’t “pull the plug”. That decision has always been Zach’s in fact. He left it in their hands and now with Eban’s release from prison brings all of these characters together.

This story was classic Sandra Brown; suspense, mystery mixed with romance on the side. It flew by and was super good! I enjoyed this one and definitely recommend. The setting seemed beautiful and the characters were well developed. The twists were perfectly placed and kept me invested! Four stars!
