I wasn't sure what to expect from this book going in to it, but I found it really moving. It's told in a unique way—we get three main POVs but they all have their own personality, if you will, in how they tell their story. I loved them though. Leo was so endearing and amusing, and I wanted him to find his voice and use it so badly. Alma was also really likable, with her lists and sneaky ways of trying to get her mom a date, and I just wanted to her younger brother Bird.

There is plot here, but it's mostly character-focused. An exploration of love and loss and how words can travel through time without you even realizing it, changing someone else's life. And it has a bit of a book within a book, so if you like that kind of thing, you'd like this one.

The ending...I actually really liked the ending. It doesn't necessarily tie all the loose threads together, and it even unties some that you thought were secure, but it made me pause and think and feel something. Which is all I usually want from a book.

I read this for my book club (the Book Club of Troublesome Women) and I'm looking forward to our discussion on it! I feel like there will be much to say about this book.

It's not a bad story, but I found the time jumping and character jumping confusing rather than helpful to the story or the development of the characters. It felt messy to me rather than explicative of how messy people are and life/love is. I wanted it to come together for me, and while I found some sweet moments and profound observations of living, it just didn't really make sense.
