The chilling atmosphere of Stephen King's the Shining is something a horror fan must experience at least once in his life. The book is about the bleak foray into tormented psyche of Jack Torrence, an aspiring writer who is hired as a caretaker at the legendary Overlook Hotel. His slow but terrifying descent into dementia is wonderfully crafted by King, who also manages to make Danny Torrence a wonderful character.
The Shining is an instant classic, as they say, and a great introduction to the Universe of Stephen King.
