'The Overlook was having one hell of a good time'- me too me too. Genuinely though, I bought the book for dirt cheap and had just let it rot in my bookcase waiting for the perfect time to pick it up. That time came after i had watched the movie, i fell so damn in love with it i decided that the very next day i had to pick it up and read. And i am so glad i did. Weirdly enough this was the book that got me out of my like 5 year reading slump and whisked me back into the world of reading. I now realise that to enjoy reading you actually have to enjoy the idea of the plot, which awfully was a fact child me never understood (RIP to all the money i spent on books i never picked up).
Now i am not saying it was love at first sight because at first i was scared it was going to end up like the hundreds of books i half finished and never picked back up (im talking to you irresponsible past me). But i was genuinely in love within the first couple of chapters. Jack is simply an awful father but you still find yourself rooting for him to do better. Wendy is at times annoying but you feel an awful amount of sympathy towards her and her son Danny. Not only do the all the characters have an amazing and captivating story archs but the magic and horror of The Overlook itself really makes this book amazing. From the creepy monsters hiding around every corner, to the maze animals that come alive (a part in which i wish Kubrick included in the movie) and finally to my guy Dick who genuinely has a big part in the book unlike his erasure from the movie. Another wonderful thing about this book is also how gory it gets towards the end, when Jack finally goes mad that is when King's ability to captivate shines. I genuinely found myself so disgusted yet intrigued by his descriptions. I hated every time i had to put it down so i could go to sleep.
To anyone who is thinking about giving this book a try, i fully endorse it. Please at least once in your life experience the wonderful book that is The Shining. Now i haven't read or seen doctor sleep yet but i am just excited for that as i am to re-read the shining.

Amazing book. It was only my first Stephen King novel but it definitely won't be my last.
