Something about this book doesn't sit well with me. Maybe it's because it seemed to wrap up too nicely. Or maybe it was the one-dimensional characters.

Sister Dear is chilling and is bound to keep you spellbound. It's tight plot is balanced with brilliant characters and suspenseful twists.
I ended up really liking this book. It hooks you in right from the beginning. The writing style was easy to get into and suited the story well. The story is focused on three main-ish characters, Emma, Caroline, and Allie. I loved seeing these characters unfold and develop as the story went one, especially Emma. Emma is probably my favorite of the characters, as she is very complex and most of the story focuses on her.
I also really enjoyed Caroline's character! She showed admirable courage in the face of what was going on, and was very relatable, despite her circumstances. I loved Dr. Gaines' character as well and overall, I found the characters to be very well-written.
Now, I did guess who the murderer about 10% in, but maybe that's just me. Just a thought, to not suspect to be absolutely shocked by the revelation of who the murderer is. However, that didn't draw away from the suspense of the story.

FOR THE PARENTS -
INTIMACY - A major character sleeps with a married someone for several months and has a child because of it.
DRUGS - Drugging is a major plot point
VIOLENCE - This story is creepy, and has instances of violence or cringe-worthy content.
CUSSING - I don't recall any??

Wow - a new favorite author! I definitely need to check our her other book. Loved everything about this book - the voice, the plot, the characters. Loved this (in case you didn't know)!

It was interesting and had me hooked up until the last third of the book. Once the characters (and by extension, I) figured it out it got quite boring and I didn’t care to see how it unfolded. I also didn’t care about any of the characters.

I have not had many reads that I feel like I don't want to put down this year so far. But, this book surprised me.
This was a book with three main characters, and four different points of view. But instead of feeling choppy or broken, you felt engaged and drawn in by each one. As you read, trying to discover the "bad guy", my heart started racing with anticipation.
It drew you into the story, living out what each character felt, saw, thought and did. You suspect, but don't confirm who did what. Also, unlike complaints about Ms. McNeil's previous book, this book did not contain any words that people would find offensive.

In the end, forgiveness is the key part of the story. Throughout the story, the story of forgiveness when falsely accused and mistreated by others is spoken again and again. I really enjoyed this story!

This was a slow build kind of read that was very enjoyable because I liked the main character and felt a lot of sympathy for her situation. Allie was surrounded by all sorts of folks who may not have always been like-able, but definitely made the story more interesting. Laura McNeill's stories are not usually fast-paced but her writing style flows nicely and the story line is typically interesting so its an enjoyable journey.

It's no secret that I loved Laura McNeill's highly suspenseful and intriguing debut novel, Center of Gravity. I loved her full-of-secrets sophomore novel, Sister Dear, for all the same reasons. Tight prose where I savor every word, multiple viewpoints told in both the present and the past, fully fleshed out, complex characters; all with a super quick, page-turning pace. I am still thinking about the ever evolving characters, each of whom I would find totally sympathetic, only to change my mind on the very next page. I highly recommend this book for fans of domestic suspense. While this advanced copy was generously given to me by the author, I had already preordered a copy because I love sharing great books with friends. All opinions expressed are my own.

This book! I couldn't put it down. Secrets, tragedies, plenty of sisterly drama... It's all included here, and the alternating storylines, switching between past and present, makes it a quick and engaging read. Five stars!
