"Any idiot can spot a window of opportunity, but it takes a unique brand of idiot to fall through one."

I'm a big fan of the Finlay Donovan series, and I couldn't resist picking up this novella Veronica Ruiz Breaks The Bank on a whim when I was in the mood for a dose of humor. I love Vero's character, and I've been looking forward to learn a bit more about her. While I do have to say that this novella isn't as strong as the rest of the series and I missed the banter between Vero and Finlay, I still enjoyed reading it. This novella takes place before the two main characters of the series first meet, so you can technically read it as a stand-alone. It might be easier to read at least book one before though, because you will be more familiar with the characters this way. It was fun to spend time with Vero, and it was great to see Ramon and Javier playing a role in this novella as well. There is even a little mystery to solve, and the plot also has a dose of romance... All in all an entertaining palate cleanser and it's definitely made me want to pick up book four.

This was fine! I think if you’re craving more of the Finlay Donovan world l, style of writing, and type of plot, you’ll like this one well enough. I was excited about this one because I wanted to learn more about Vero and she’s such a fun character I thought her POV would be sassy and badass. But honestly, I didn't get either of those things and her characterization was more Finlay than anything, which was too bad.

Overall, not necessary to read to continue on in the series and it just seemed like something was missing from this story to make it pop.

What happened to Vero before she met Finlay? And how did she mean Finlay? Well, this novella will tell you!
I enjoyed this little intro to Vero! I was glad to get more of her backstory and it makes me less suspicious of her as well as making her more likeable and relatable.
It had all the humor of the book; I just wish it had some spice!

This was a cute addition to the Finlay Donovan series.  While it is technically a prequel, I wouldn't recommend reading it before the other books in the series.  And if you choose not to read it, it won't affect your understanding of the series.

I enjoyed learning a bit about Vero's backstory and how she came to be Finlay's nanny.
