"Write new stories with new superheroes."
Telling stories and writing stories are completely different skills. And the story will never get told if we judge ourselves the whole time we write the first draft (paraphrasing Wil Wheaton). I love that Abdul's Story empowers storytellers (and makers of all kinds) to start with a tremendously ugly draft to just get something going, and then work on it to make it better. In working with youth groups, I've sometimes encouraged kids to draw their notes because it's a way of connecting that works better for some... and for me, I'm good with writing notes in words; drawing stretches my brain in ways that it doesn't naturally go. Bookmarks connects authors and readers, and part of that is encouraging people to tell their own stories.

This would be a great story for a writer's workshop, to get those reluctant writers writing.

a beautiful book about a young boy who struggles with writing but loves telling stories and what an impact a visit from an author makes on how he views himself as a writer.
