A great colloquium of ideas about insects and bugs that brings together academics, poets, flash fiction authors and artists. The design dominates this book in a way that is unique, I think -- it not only exploits the full potential of digital publishing, but also effectively keeps the senses alert all along the way with colorfully vivid backdrops and artful layout. The passion of the editors at dailynightmare.com for the bug theme comes beaming out at you. Take for instance, Jessica McHugh's bug poem, "Prelude," whose lines virtually squirm up and down the page as they are printed atop the legs of a giant millipede. This kind of thing is frightful and fun, yes, but also very smartly done, balancing experiential reading with intellectual topics by keeping psychological issues in the foreground. I learned new things about the atomic anxieties in bug movies and opened my mind to "the beauty of maggots" as I crept and crawled through the book.
