The Third Philippa Gregory book I've read I really enjoyed reading about Queen Katherine of Aragon. After reading I wanted to learn more about Katherine of Aragon and who she was before marrying Henry VIII.
I was expecting this to be really great, based on all the positive reviews. I couldn't get beyond page 50, my magic number for deciding whether or not to finish a particular book.
The dialogue is poor and the children all seem to have the minds of adults. Katherine's story is better told by others.

Not as well written, in my opinion, as other novels by Ms. Gregory, but certainly well researched and it still made of an interesting historical read.
The first two-thirds was repetitive and slow. When Catalina was finally anointed Queen Katherine, the pace picked up so significantly that I was disappointed when the book ended.
I'm really enjoying Philipps Gregory's books right now. I know they are historical fiction and very loosely based on history, but they are interesting, compelling reads and they really do grab your attention. And while they are loosely based, it's also interesting to read about some aspects of the Tudor history (and then her interpretation of events) and not be bored to tears, as I usually am about anything slightly historical.
Not as good as The Other Boleyn Girl but still a fun book.
In truth, I would rate this book a 3.5/5. Most because it took me a while to get use to the switching back and forth from third person to first person constantly. However, I really enjoyed reading about “the great lie” told from this perspective and entertaining the idea that it was told from
a place of love and self righteousness.
a place of love and self righteousness.
A good book with great insight to the stoic queen I met in [book: The Other Boleyn Girl]! I only wish it had gone on a bit longer, instead of skipping from Katherine's victory over the Scots and her new pregnancy to the "trial" to end her marriage years later. There was good foreshadowing and all, but to suddenly go from having Henry announce himself as "Sir Loyal Heart" to the end of her reign with no explanation in between was quite jarring, especially for those who haven't read into the subject.

An okay ready, but The Other Boleyn Girl is still the best book in this series about the Tudor family.
