Este livro foi-me sugerido pela Ana Luísa Henriques e gostei muito... Demorei algum tempo a ler pois fui interrompendo para ler outros, mas conseguia continuar sempre sem ter de voltar atrás.

So, this was maybe my least favourite Gregory book so far. I was really looking forward to reading about Katherine of Aragon, cause she’s legit one of my favourites but this book…the writing….
I admit I speed-red through the last half just to get this book over with. Most of Gregory’s books have plot holes and average prose but this one was just so glaringly…bad? Boring? Disappointing? I don’t know. I’m just moving on I guess.

I've been reading this series slowly because I know I will enjoy all these books, they're addictng. I think this is my favourite of the first six!
Ugh. When the story wasn't jarringly jumping back and forth between first and third person (UGH), it was just dragging on and on and on. And if I had to read the phrase "darken with desire" one more time, I was gonna pull a Silver Linings Playbook and chuck it out the window.
I'm biased, I'm not particularly big on historical fiction to begin with, so I'm not the best person to give a review on this. Nevertheless, I found it started off strong and I was quite hooked with the depth of emotions exhibited within. Catalina's childhood was very interesting, as well as her coming to terms with her new life in England.
Unfortunately, about half way through, I found that the pacing hit a brick wall. It became awfully repetitive (and oh so annoying - Enough with your saintly mother, we get it already!), causing me to lose all interest in Catalina. Her marriage to Arthur was derivative and, quite frankly, downright boring after some time (it was a little too much fluff for me, but that's just my opinion). The next portion was a blur to me as I started to flip through the pages, looking for the next important event in Catalina's life. I lost interest and payed little attention to the giant portion of the novel that dealt with her excruciatingly long wait for her next husband, Henry.
The final part of the novel which focused on her reign as Queen of England (the part of the novel I was most looking forward to, hoping that the pace would pick up again) felt rushed and ultimately left me feeling disappointing and a little cheated.
All in all, if you're into historical fiction, maybe you'll feel differently. In fact, I hope you do, the beginning really was quite good. But as far as I'm concerned, the novel could have been cut in half in order to make it into a much more enjoyable read.

The Constant Princess does an excellent job at drawling the reader into the story and teaching them about Queen Catharine. While this book is certainly an interesting read the author seems to pay an odd amount of attention to the possibility of Henry the seventh having feelings for Catharine. I haven't seen mention of that in writings before but I am now motivated to see if that is indeed reflected in the historical record.
