informative
I know it’s romanticized, but I do feel like I learned a lot about this time period.
I think various questions brought up in this book were really interesting (ex: What if Catherine of Aragon had lied about not consummating her marriage with Prince Arthur? Why did the King Henry VII make her wait 7 years to marry Henry?) and it was interesting to read about this very familiar story from Catherine's perspective, but the italicized internal monologue?! Yikes. That wore thin after awhile.

Probably the best book in the series, such a rich journey of a character
I've been meaning to reat The Other Boelyn Girl for ages now but decided to start at the beginning of the series instead. This series is set in a very interesting time period that I don't know only a minimal amount about and so far it has been nice listening to this series. I look forward to reading / listening to more of it soon.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. After all, it's Philippa Gregory, an icon of historical fiction. My greatest bugbear was the way the characters were written and they way they thought internally. I found the characters one-dimensional and very unbelievable, even though they are real life characters. There was nothing in the plot to make you read on. The pace was okay, but it alternated between first and third person so rapidly, it was easy to put the book down. I finished the book because I wanted to get to the next one and not because I was interested in what happened. The end of the book was rushed and disjointed, but the saving grace of this book is learning more about Queen Katherine, of whom I knew little about prior to her marriage to Arthur. This book has not turned me off of Philippa Gregory, as I quite enjoyed The White Queen. I read this book so I can read The Other Boleyn Girl, but refuse to read a series unless it is in the order it is meant to be read!
