I feel like this book is a victim of its time. It's so outdated on scientific facts about dinosaurs and how they treat nature. But, I guess that if we put it in its context, its an adventure book and the story of a man finding meaning to his own identity through his friendship with his peers, plus there's a few dinos and racist portrayal of indigenous people from south america.
Dinosaurs, Arthur Conan Doyle, and adventure into the amazon? What's not to love!
The story follows Malone, a journalist, and his quest to discover what Professor Challenger really found when he went South America- obviously, he thinks the ideas of jurrasic life is ludicrous...
...until he sees it for himself.
The book is written in his accounts to his editor but the first person narrative really makes it believable. I love Arthur Conan Doyle's writing style, I definitely want to discover more of his work now I have delved out of the Sherlock Holmes world.
I'd definitely recommend :)

Old style writing, took one to concentrate on reading to keep the scenes details fresh in ones mind. It's been years since I read this book. It was more fascinating this time, than the first time read. Worth the read
I'm a fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and find reading his Sherlock Holmes stories to be very relaxing an comforting. This book was a big disappointment for me- first because his writing style is not gripping enough for the story being told and second because his period-typical racism is very present throughout the novel.
I'm a history geek and history geeks love history so much that we even study the history of the academic subject of history. So it's no surprise that I the part of this novel that I did enjoy was the turn of the century descriptions of the dinosaurs. My favorite interpretation was the thought of the two legged predatory dinosaurs hopping about like kangaroos.
Overall, I didn't like this story and won't be recommending it to others.

2.5 stars. This was a fun romp, but this was one classic I found I did get bogged down in the language a little bit. I found the interesting parts too short and the slower parts were dragged out.
Also, due to the time it was written, sometimes there was some racism seen in the writing and behaviour of the characters, which was offputting.

Not as exciting as I had hoped it to be, a little bit of a let down.
I didn't feel for any of the characters which probably didnt help my lack of appreciation. Might give it another try later, I like to give all books a second chance.

It could be more accurate to say it's a three stars and a half, close to four, but still I was losing interest for what Conan Doyle was telling as the reading was making progress.
