Features a MMC who is shy and nerdy in the streets but dominant in the sheets.

2.75 rounded up because I'm probably skewing down for the grief subplot.
The spice in this is good. The toe tip into dom/sub was good. The tension was good. But the grief subplot was hard (personal reasons, and I specifically requested no death so for that to be a major catalyst for events was a bit off-putting for no fault of the author). The descriptions to introduce everyone felt repetitive (he/she was white. she was Mexican American) and it was definitely a lot of telling and not showing. The setting sounded lovely. I appreciate that they didn't have a traditional 3rd act breakup, but
I do wish that they had remained in communication while she was in Paris. I just feel like they could have exchanged a letter or two - she SHOULD have sent him a poem - rather than just pining for 3 months over a 1-week experience. It would have made her grand gesture a bit more realistic and, honestly, even more romantic to me.
Overall, not a terrible book by any means - just not the right book for me right now. I don't think I'll continue with the series. At least not anytime soon.

Cal is the cutest. He is so adorable and intelligent and I fell completely in love with him.
Lucia was unlikable at first, but she won me over pretty fast.
The descriptions of poetry and books and the landscape were amazing and inspiring and I really want to open up a bookstore at the end of civilization right about now

Wow, Calvin is the MMC I didn’t know I needed. I also really loved how sweet and poetic these two falling in love was. This was a great romance.
