My first five-star read of the year!!!
What better way to kickstart my 2023 than with a romance book all about books?
Here we have Calvin, a man whose routine life gets upended when his grandfather unexpectedly passes and leaves him his bookstore—and the immense amount of debt it's drowning in. His life gets shaken even more when a supermodel by the name of Lucia visits his small town and charms him with her poetic mind and beauty. Lucia has troubles of her own; she's slowly realizing her life of fame isn't bringing her joy like it used to. Instead, she finds it in the remote small town of Big Sur and in a shy, glasses-wearing bookstore owner who makes her feel alive but she's destined to leave behind.
This book was such a pure delight. It's everything I want in a small town romance: sweet, cozy, and spicy. It was wonderful reading Lucia's character transformation from being obsessed with her follower count to being simply content with tapping into her inner passion. At the same time, I enjoyed seeing Calvin's conflicted thoughts on what he truly wants in his life: mundane normalcy or exciting unpredictability. I loved seeing the two bond over the written word and find both their souls' true home with each other.
Also, big props to the steam in this book. It's anything but innocent (shoutout to *that* wild scene that caused books and shelves to topple over), but sweet and romantic in the best way possible.
With all that said, I couldn't recommend this enough, especially to every small town romance enthusiast out there. If you're looking for a heart-clenching romance surrounding books, add this to your TBR right now!
