Book #4 complete for the year! Great debut novel for Kara Douglas! I enjoyed the journey of Amira. After about the 40% mark (where the story picks up pace), I couldn't put the book down. It wasn't clear who was speaking at several spots in the book, but, other than that, I give this debut novel 4 star! I cannot wait to read the sequel and learn how Amira navigates Crea and her found (royal) family! Keep writing Kara because if this is your debut novel, I cannot wait to read what you write in the future!

Started off a little slow (though that tends to happen in the first fantasy book of a series), but once it got going I could not put it down until that last page.

Feisty FMC who gets thrown somewhere she didn't think she wanted to be, but finds out things she needed to know, some good things happen to her and some not so good things happen to her (I know it's vague- but the twists this story has are worth it). Also has the 'little girl' fantasies of normal girl going to the ball and meeting the prince vibes- kind of the best of both worlds for me.

Not that I could ever compare anything to Throne of Glass but our FMC was giving ToG Celaena vibes. She's not perfect or annoying, but she feels real and relatable.

The fantasy aspects were unique enough to be interesting, but not too complicated to be confusing or overwhelming. I cannot wait to see where this story goes!

✨Ummmm all of my romantic fantasy loving friends need to add this book to their tbrs ASAP!✨

I was immediately drawn into the story by Kara’s writing style. It’s descriptive, beautiful, and immersive while also being easy to read and devour.

The world building was well done and interesting. The story follows Amira, a fierce and resilient FMC who grew up with an unloving (and quite awful) father in a war camp. Her monotonous and lonely life is turned upside down when she is forced to attend a match making event at the castle.

At the castle, new characters are introduced and the “fun” begins. I love reading stories with court and political intrigue. The drama, the parties/balls, the scheming, the allies, the enemies… love it!

This story has some wonderful characters. Besides the awesome FMC, there are two MMCs. One is mysterious and has a bad reputation and the other is a golden boy. The tension and banter in this book are

the beginning was a bit slow and some plot points you have to just roll with but the last half? of the book the author really finds her footing and it’s incredible and the plot twist i knew there had to be Something
