At the beginning, Lunaria felt a bit slow to get going, but as I continued reading, the story really started to pick up steam. The pace gradually increased, and I found myself becoming more invested in the characters and their journey. Amira, or Lunaria as she is known, is caught in a complex situation with both Adrian, the one she is truly drawn to, and Graylen, with whom she is only pretending to be interested to escape an unwanted engagement arranged by her father. This love triangle adds a fascinating layer to the narrative, and the twists and turns kept me hooked. Although the start was a little gradual, it was definitely worth the wait.
The world-building and character dynamics started to shine as the narrative developed. Adrian and Graylen both bring different aspects to Amira’s journey, with one representing the love she craves and the other being part of a facade. Even though Amira doesn’t feel any romantic spark with Graylen in this book, the way their dynamic plays out is still really interesting. The absence of any 🌶️ scenes didn’t take away from the story at all, and I didn’t feel like anything was missing. The plot flowed smoothly, keeping me interested throughout, and I was able to read it quickly. The character development and the intriguing twists in the story were enough to keep me hooked. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed it without the need for intense scenes.

I had to take off half a star for the sheet amount of winking that goes on

I as so excited when this came out as an audiobook! The narrator is amazing and this book was incredible! The FMC, Amira, grew up in a harsh training camp with her harsh father. She befreinds a stranger at the market but little does she know she’ll soon be chosen for an arranged marriage at the castle. There she meets the broody princes snake, named Graylen who has a fearsome reputation. Not all is as it seems! I cannot wait to dive into the next book Illuminance!

Lunaria by Kara Douglas is such a good read. One of my favorite aspects of the book is how the author wrote the main character Amira. Kara Douglas writes in such beautiful, descriptive detail that I feel like I could feel Amira's feelings through the author's words. I felt like I was on Amira's journey right alongside her. When Amira was sad, I was sad. When Amira was enraged, I was enraged! When she was happy, I was giddy!! Such good writing by the author.

Another of my favorite aspects of Lunaria are the supporting characters in the book from Linnick, the fruit selling merchant, to Opal, Amira's best friend. Amira's friendship circle is small but made up of the most amazing characters who love fiercely and protect fiercely. Quality, not quantity.

The last twenty percent of the book really picks up and the plot THICKENS! Thank goodness Illuminance, which is book 2, is available to read now. I will 100% be continuing Amira's journey by reading Illuminance after I write this review. Trust me, you will too!

If you love good, strong main character development, want to feel what the characters feel, themes of identity discovery, enemies to lovers, love triangle, magic, and court intrigue - you will love reading Lunaria. <3

Enjoy the ride friends!

Went into this story not knowing what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised.
Eager to read the next volume in the series.
No spice but some lingering looks and handholding.
