I can't believe that I'm saying that but the second book was ruined by the amount of sex scenes. Let me explain.

This is book two of duology, the review contains spoilers for book one.

Both books are around 200 pages each, which is not a lot and the plot should be going fast and this is actually what was happening in the first book, which is why I liked that book. But the second book. I mean, I get that Mara and Cole are in relationships now and sex is quite an important part of it, but can we get something in the book beyond this? I understand that they need time to understand each other and their feelings, that Mara needs time to heal, but I was like at 60% and nothing substantial happened, we just starting to make some revenge plans, plot starting to move and again a sex scene. At one point I got so tired of it, that I was just skipping it, which is wild for me and the book, which is not that long. In the end, the plan was created, organised and got into action within like 15 pages. And around 20 pages were for the ending and revenge itself. And I was generally confused. I know that duology is often compared to "Cat and Mouse duet", but there the plan felt more serious and more well-thought-out. I also thought that several plot lines such as critic and policeman were not completely logically finished. In the end, the ending was disappointing.

But well, there is not only bad in this book, what I did love was the relationship between Cole and Mara. I love that Cole sees Mara as a beautiful woman, but also as a talented artist. Even when he first saw her, the thing that attracted him was her creativity. He praises and helps her to grow as an artist and not through his name but as an independent one. To the point, when he doesn't particularly interested in his own career, just let the world see Mara. I also enjoyed him helping her heal, like organising her a Christmas, because he knew, that she never had a proper one.

And well, Mara's art is something that I enjoyed reading about. Often, in books character is described as an artist, but it is very quickly forgotten and they might as well be an accountant and nothing will change much. Not in this case. Mara uses her art to heal, to grow, to show her true self. He is eager to get some constructive criticism and advice from Cole. The author also describes ideas behind collections and each piece and it's fascinating to read about, especially in combination with illustrations.

Overall, I think the biggest problem of this series, is that it is quite short. Both books combined shouldn't be more than 500 pages and it's easy to read. I would say, that I recommend this series if you want to try more heavy-topic dark romance, but don't want to read way too many details of it.

This was my opinion, you should have yours

girl wtf

This book was better than the first. But, overall, the series was a letdown after all the hype on YouTube.

“You threaten everything I thought I knew, and everything I believed.”

I think I enjoyed this one way more than the first just because it felt like more was happening the whole time. It had more of a romance feel compared to the first one. I really enjoy that the romance between Mara and Cole is very nontraditional. I mean neither of them denies that they have an obsession with each other. The ending of this one had me so nervous because I was not sure how it was going to play out and who was going to walk away. It was nice to watch Mara come into her own and heal her trauma.

Well, this was a disappointment....

I suppose this is why I don't like book series ... specifically, the ones that are not just interconnected, but rather, they follow the same characters from the first book...

I don't like it mainly because quite often when there's a continuation of the story into another book or a few books.. the second book is not as great as the first book

I picked up this book because I loved Cole and Mara in: 'There are no saints'

However, this one kind of bored me
