“I’d heard people say they wouldn’t change one day in their lives. I felt a bit differently. If I had to change one day, just one, I would. I’d give anything for that opportunity.”

Eternal life, never aging, sounds like a fantastic idea, right? Well, you might think differently once you read My Name is Rapunzel.

I was drawn to this book because I love retellings, the blurb intrigued me and the cover was just gorgeous. I had no idea the depth this story would go to. I thought I was in for a modern retelling of the classic tale of Rapunzel. The truth is, it was so much more than that. The heartbreak and loss she suffers was devastating. Don’t get me wrong, the story wasn’t all sadness, but it had more than it’s fair share. But, there was also humor, lovely moments and strong characters. The story was slow and steady and, being totally honest, I wish it had been a little faster paced. However, I was so intrigued with the premise and I needed to know how the story ended, so I was never in danger of giving up on it.
“You can choose to spend year after year, century after century, mourning a loss. Or you can move on and enjoy love throughout your lifetime. I vote for love.”

I loved Rapunzel. She was spunky and strong. She would have to be to deal with all that she went through in this story. I’m being purposefully vague because I don’t want to take anything away from the story. The enjoyment I had was mostly from the surprising moments that I absolutely never saw coming.

My Name is Rapunzel was a surprising book in more ways than one. It was unique and heartbreaking, but hopeful. I respect what the author did here. She definitely gave me a lot to think about. It’s nothing like the retellings I’ve read to this point, but I liked it because of that. I’d definitely be interested in reading this author’s take on other classic stories and the characters we think we know.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All quotes come from the review copy and may differ from the final version.

Giving this a 2.5 rating
I dunno, I felt like half the story was missing so what I had to read made no sense which is not a good thing
Its an interesting story but she repeated a lot of stuff, sometimes whole paragraphs and that just drove me nuts :(
I am glad I read it though, have been wanting to for a while now

so i have been waiting to get my hands on this book for AGES so i was really excited when i got asked to review a copy. while i did enjoy this book it was not quite what i was expecting going into it and was up against some pretty stiff competition as a Rapunzel retelling as this story has been retold quite a few times in the past year or so. this story is a retelling in only the loosest of terms which if unlike me you had read the blurb may not surprise you all that much for the most part the tale is almost unrecognisable with the story more based around the origin of the tale and what Rapunzel's life had really been like. the inclusion of the dragon which was missing from the original tale (or at least the versions I have read) did add an element of interest and i did enjoy all the unknown parts of Rapunzel's life and how the story all came together.
however i found that the story did sometimes get repetitive with scenes being repeated without any extra information actually being added and personally i did find the "big twist" oddly predictable. this however did not overly detract from what was in truth an enjoyable version of Rapunzel. it may not be my favourite version of the tale but still one that i am sure i will come back too.

My Name is Rapunzel'e asında ani bir hisle, seveceğimi düşünmeden başladım.
Greta'nın kötülüğünü her daim sorguluyorsunuz.

For the first half of this book I just thought: I think I'd like this better if this story was told in a different way. But it was okay and I was on holiday so I kept on reading. I wish I hadn't.
What a waste of my time!
The ending is completely ridiculous. Giving every single character a "deeper connection" to Rapunzel, why was that necessary?
*spoilers*
Henry being the dragon, it seriously took her 250years to figure that out?
The other guys switching places with Henry and everyone accepting it and never thinking about it twice cause he ONCE made a comment about the freedom of a dragon?
And the love of her life killed her "son" but that's okay, she's gonna help him get rid of his regret???
I'm so disappointed.

I was chosen to be a part of Hilton's street team so the copy I read was an ARC. Thanks KC Hilton!

I read this ARC back in June but am just now getting to this review. I really enjoyed this book! I'm a sucker for fairy tales - always have been - so this immediately called to me. There seems to be a hundred retellings of Cinderella or Snow White, even a few Beauty and the Beast versions, but I haven't found many Rapunzel works.

In this version, Rapunzel is cursed very early in the story. Apparently the witch is pretty against true love because the girl is cursed and the boy disappears. Although the curse may not sound like such a bad thing to some, as she was forced to be 17 (or was it 18?) for, like, ever. So there's that.

I'm not going into a lot of detail in this review. Just know that there's a girl who lives for over 250 years, a dragon who stalks her, a witch who's pretty weird, a journalist who you both root for and wish would shut up, and a myriad of other characters both awesome and average.

The story begins kind of slow, as some do. The background and origins are given, and the story progresses and moves throughout those 250 years previously mentioned. That's probably my only complaint about this book. I sometimes wanted to know more about the dragon than about her previous life. In saying that, however, I understand why Hilton did it. The set up is important to the story so I can dig it.

Anyway, other than the initial slow pace, I thought this retelling was wonderful! Part II was fast moving and kept my interest. I think I finished the book in about 2 days. And the dragon! That's all I'll say though :)

I think the book has finally been released, so please pick it up if you enjoy fairy tales or even YA novels. There's something in it for everyone. I think Hilton may have just established a permanent fan base.

It was a cute short story on Rapunzel.

Actual Rating: 2.75

This was an okay read. I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed with the way the book turned out. The premise of the story showed potential, but the writing style did not live up to it. This being a retelling of a fairy tale, I was curious to read the characters in a different way, but it did not click for me. The characters were not as exciting as they were in the being. I thought Rapunzel was okay character. There are some parts that were boring, while other parts were intriguing. The ending was good, but I was also a bit confused. I just thought the story could have been done way better. Overall, an alright read.

this way okay, I love everything Rapunzel related and found that end of this story just really annoyed me! I know most fairytales have happy endings but this ending just fell flat for me.
