Overall, I really loved this book. I listened to the book, and the two readers they chose for Ren and Cathy's chapters suited the story really well. The story was hard to listen to, at times, with this looming threat of others preying on Ren's psyche that became reality. But I was hooked. Though Ren was definitely a sharp and guarded character, her narration of her life made me ache for her, making the ending of the story so cathartic. The main criticism I have was the pacing felt off at some points, and while it never dragged there were some drawn out parts. But, mostly, I really liked Chlorine.

Soooo disturbing, but it was literally recommended to me because of the disturbing ending scene :..) if I had a nickel for every anthropomorphic sapphic coming of age novel with body horror I've read I'd have three nickels... which isn't a lot etc etc

i think this book would’ve been more enjoyable if the story was told more chronologically if that makes sense. i felt as though the narrators inner dialogue basically gave away the ending in the first few chapters which made the rest of the book predictable and the ending wasn’t satisfying because of it. if the tension was built more gradually through the book i think the last few chapters would’ve been more shocking. i also didn’t feel super connected to any of the characters or really invested in them and their relationships. with all that being said though, it was pretty readable and i got through it semi quickly. even though i wasn’t in love with it, there was something about it that kept me from putting it down and moving on, which is why it’s not a dnf.
