30 pages was enough for me to get uncomfortable with the ableism and we haven't even gotten to the trauma porn yet... With what I've found out about the author since (the lack of research, not believing in trigger warnings, not believing in therapy, etc), I really feel i made the right call. Sometimes it's not necessarily to read the whole thing to be a hater.

I think I have found my no 1 read of 2023 and I am very certain of this decision.

Revolves around Jude St Francis’ life and his friendship with Willem, JB and Malcolm. Jude of the present is surrounded by friends and people who love him, care for him but he always feels lonely and hurtful from the trauma and abuse from his past. It is sad to see how he cannot overcome his past damage no matter how much love he receives.

One detail in this book that imprints my brain is when Jude admits that he knows his friends think the best of him and he wishes they could show him how to do it because he too, wants to feel better about himself but he just simply cannot. I cannot say that I understand for him but I know for a fact that this is the first time I felt so painful for a character in a fiction.

Let’s talk about Hanya’s writing. I tend to avoid really long books because I’m just scared I will abandon at some point. So picking up this book I didn’t know what to expect. Since it is 800-page long, every little detail in every single scene is described so profound. But at the same time, I didn’t feel like I just read 800 pages. That is how smooth her writing is.

I do not know what is the magic of this book. All I know is 815 pages and 3 weeks later and now I am a mess and I don’t think I will ever recover from this book. This is truly THE book for you to both enjoy and suffer at the same time.

My biggest slump ever
I'm writting this review a year after reading this book, and I still haven't stopped thinking about it. I know I'll never find a story like this again, and that's for the best for my mental health. It's so much more than just a story, as it left me with such an emotional weight. But I think i like the pain, because if I could read it fot the first time again, I would start over endlessly.
