10/10. Speechless. This book. This world. These characters! Man oh man. The ending of this book has me spiraling… I fear so much for Patrick and Nina! Gosh, I truly don’t know where to go from here. Patrick is MY TYPE OF MAN. The strong silent type who only have a soft spot for their loved ones. Ugh. Can I order 100 more of him please? Flawless. I know book one just released but I’m already dying for book 2.

One of my favorite reads of the year! Nina and Patrick are pulled into the world of elemental magic and uncover a truth meant to stay buried. It’s a story that examines community, resistance, and the idea that not all battles are fought for glory, sometimes they’re for something quieter, deeper.

Nina’s torn between the life she escaped and the one she built, and Patrick carries the weight of a revolution on his back. The romance was filled with yearning i mean true yearning and I ate it up! I loved the found family, and also Theodore the emotionally complex ec who still in love? redemption arc please! Magic, banter, betrayal, and longing? What more could you want?

Oh wow this was so good and that ending!! I feel so many things all at once.

I love the magic system and ugh so many characters to love. Really got me invested in this story so easily and I can’t wait for more.

I love fantasy books and love when instead of magic it's alchemy. We love a switch up. The pacing of this book took a second to adapt to, I won't lie. The characters go through years and years within a few chapters before we get to our main story. Once you get past that trust me you'll enjoy every second reading.

I love McEwan's writing style and the way the characters are brought to life and given realistic traits. When I made a story asking why she would do this to me, the response was "idk I have issues" and THAT is how you make me fall in love with an author.

I can't wait for the (hopeful) other books that will follow after.
